Mette Laugs

Mette Laugs studied bassoon with Johan Steinmann at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and obtained her diploma in Music Performance in 1994. Even before graduating, she was appointed co-principal bassoonist at Het Gelders Orkest and was promoted to solo bassoonist with the orchestra in 1998. For Mette, music is all about connecting, communicating, and inspiring. With her characteristic energy and passion, she has been teaching since her youth. From 2008, she served as a principal subject and chamber music lecturer at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, and in September 2013, she was appointed coordinator of the Master of Music programme. Additionally, she completed her Master’s degree in Management and Innovation in Social Institutions at HAN University of Applied Sciences in 2015, training as a Change Manager.

From August 2021 to November 2024, she was Head of Classical Studies at the Conservatorium Maastricht, where she contributed with great enthusiasm to the training of the musicians of the future.

In November 2024, she began her role as managing director of the Philzuid orchestra.
